There are very few jobs in the shanty towns, and those that there are are usually long hours for very little pay.
Lack of factory jobs
Multinational companies bring with them their own staff for skilled positions. This only leaves unskilled manual work for locals. However, the mechanisation of factories means that there are less manual jobs available.
Lack of capital for regeneration
Pakistani government and local authorities do not have the money needed to improve the city.
Lack of national income from tax
Many people who live and work in the shanty towns do not pay tax. This means the government has less money to spend on regenerating and rebuilding the area.
